Summer often means road trips with friends, traveling abroad with family or going on a solo adventure or two. No matter where you decide to go or who you explore with, keep these five tips in mind for stress-free travel.
- Flight Deals
If you’re looking to jet off to an exotic locale this summer, alerts are your new best friends. Take the time to set up alerts with Google Flights, Skyscanner and the airline of your choice to keep track of flight prices and snag the best deal. It also pays to be open to travelling during “shoulder season” or the weeks before or after peak season. You’ll get the best of your destination – without the crowds or the huge price tag.
- Pack Light
Bring only the essentials. Whether you’re trekking up a mountain and navigating trails or exploring a new city and moving through throngs of people, it’s easier with a backpack than a heavy suitcase. We recommend sticking with a 30 – 40 L backpack. It’s roomy enough to hold a week’s worth of clothing along with other must-have items yet small enough to fit in the overhead compartment of international and most local flights.
- Rain Ready
Be prepared for anything – even rain! Bring along a lightweight waterproof jacket for unexpected showers. We suggest looking one that’s compact and easy to pack. If you have the space to do so, you can also pack a waterproof bag to keep your electronics and valuables safe from sea, mud or occasional downpour.
- Old School Entertainment
Once you’ve exhausted your collection of downloaded songs, TV shows and movies …or the battery on your phone, a pack of cards is the way to go. Portable and light, a pack of cards will keep you and your travel buddies entertained for hours on end. Pusoy dos anyone?
- Safety First
Be prepared for any emergency big or small with a trusty first aid kit. Aside from the basics, you can also customize your kit to suit your destination. Bring vinegar for jellyfish stings on beach trips or calamine lotion to soothe rashes from itchy flora on camping trips.
